Torna county
The Torna county (German also Tornau , Hungarian and Latin Torna , Slovak Turňa ) was a historical administrative unit ( county / county ) in the Kingdom of Hungary .
It was located in the southeastern area of today's Slovakia and today's northern Hungary, southwest of the city of Košice , the Slovak name Turňa is now used as an unofficial name for this area.
The originally very large county was one of the first in Hungary, but over time it was increasingly reduced to the territory around the Turňa River . Originally the administrative seat of the county was in Tornau Castle , later in the municipality of Turňa nad Bodvou (German Tornau an der Bodwa , Hungarian Torna ). After it was amalgamated with Abaúj County in 1785–1790 and 1848–1859 , it was finally united with Abaúj-Torna County in 1882 .
