Killerman is an action drama by Malik Bader that premiered in July 2019 as part of the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal and was released in German cinemas on August 8, 2019.

action

There is an exchange of fire in which the two manage to steal both the drugs and the money. In the course of the subsequent chase by the police, there is a tragic car accident in which the money launderer Moe loses his memory.

production

Directed by Malik Bader , who also wrote the script and can be seen in the film in the role of Martinez. Liam Hemsworth plays Moe and Emory Cohen plays Skunk.

The German dubbing was created after the dialogue direction by Christian Schneider on behalf of Scalamedia GmbH, Berlin. Leonhard Mahlich lends his voice to Moe in the German version, Tim Sander Skunk and Maria Hönig Lola.

The film music was composed by Julian DeMarre and the German film composer and music producer Heiko Maile . The soundtrack, which comprises a total of 20 pieces of music, is scheduled to be released by Varese Sarabande as a download on August 30, 2019.

A first German trailer was presented in mid-July 2019. The film premiered in July 2019 as part of the Montreal Fantasia International Film Festival. It was released in German cinemas on August 8, 2019. A theatrical release in the USA took place on August 30, 2019.

Age rating

In the USA, the film received an R rating from the MPAA , which corresponds to a rating of 17 and over. In Germany, the film was approved by the FSK from the age of 16. In the unabridged version, he received no youth approval. The FSK-16 statement of reasons for approval states that some depictions of brutal violence and the ambivalence of the characters, who are increasingly amoral, could overwhelm children and young people under the age of 16. However, since most of the violence takes place off-screen and the closed gangster setting in New York hardly offers any means of identification for young people, 16-year-olds are already able to deal with these aspects.

reception

Doris Kuhn wrote in the Süddeutsche Zeitung : “A great old-fashioned scenario, and it will go on for the entire film. You see New York really dirty again [...] You can feel the energy of the city, in which everyone absolutely wants to do a business, there is capitalism and hysteria in the air. "About the depiction of the police you read the following:" This New Malik Bader drew York cops in an unusually raw way; there is a touch of Sam Peckinpah around them, as in half of the film . Malik's staging also contributes to this, as it is concise and realistic, everything is bright, everything is moving, it is pleasantly little explained. "

In Bianca Piringer's film review, you learn that the film indulges in its set pieces and clichés. The film is not lacking in action and violence scenes, "[t] he camera and the montage appear very dynamic in this thriller filmed on analog film material." But "[t] he real reward awaits the genre fans with a surprising twist at the end, which leads to an exciting ethical decision. "

In the Augsburger Allgemeine , Martin Schwickert comes to the conclusion that the film is a bland action thriller with narrative nonsense. He writes about the main actor: "Liam Hemsworth fails here both as a tearful amnesia patient and as a rock-hard revenge hero in an almost pitiful way."
