Emory Cohen

Emory Isaac Cohen (born March 13, 1990 in New York City , New York ) is an American actor . He is best known for his portrayal of the AJ in the American drama The Place Beyond the Pines and his involvement in the television series Smash .

Life

Emory Cohen was born in New York City in March 1990 . He graduated from Elisabeth Irwin High School and then went on to study acting at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia . He played his first role in 2008 in the film Afterschool , which premiered at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section . In 2009 he had an unrecognized short role in the episode film New York, I Love You and in the film The Hungry Ghosts his first leading role in a feature film. For his performance in Four , Cohen and his fellow actors won the 2012 Audience Award at the Los Angeles Film Festival. Also in 2012 he starred in the film dramas The Place Beyond the Pines and Nor'easter . From 2012 to 2013 he took over in the NBC - Musical - television series Smash the role of Leo , the son of the main character Julia Houston ( Debra Messing ).
