Shaun Anthony Woodward (born October 26, 1958 in Bristol , United Kingdom ) is a British politician ( Labor Party ).

biography

Shaun Woodward was initially a member of the Conservative Party . In 1999 he switched to the Labor Party after he had advocated the abolition of Clause 28 against the official party line and therefore lost his offices in the parliamentary group. From May 1, 1997 to June 7, 2001, he was a member of the House of Commons for Witney . He then served in Merseyside for the constituency of St Helens South , which was renamed St Helens South and Whiston in 2010, until the 2015 general election .

In 2005 Woodward was appointed Parliamentary Secretary of State in the Northern Ireland Department. Woodward served as Minister for Northern Ireland from June 28, 2007 until the Gordon Brown government was voted out of office. He then was shadow minister for this department until October 2011.

Woodward has been married to Camilla Sainbury since 1987, a member of the Sainbury family who still have a stake in the J Sainsbury supermarket chain . The couple has four children.
