David Stewart

David Stewart (born May 5, 1956 in Inverness ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Labor Party and the Co-operative Party .

Life

Stewart attended Paisley College and received a bachelor's degree . He then went to Stirling University and earned a degree in social work. In 1996 he also earned a degree in management from the Open University . Stewart is a member of the UNISON union . He is married and has two children.

British House of Commons

Stewart first appeared in the 1997 general election to national elections. He won the direct mandate of the constituency of Inverness East, Nairn and Lochaber and defended it in the following general election in 2001 . Before the general election in 2005 , the constituency of Inverness East, Nairn and Lochaber was dissolved. For this reason, Stewart ran for one of the successor constituencies Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey , but was defeated by the Liberal Democrat Danny Alexander and lost his seat in the British House of Commons .

Scottish Parliament

For the Scottish parliamentary elections in 2007 , Stewart applied for a list mandate for the Highlands and Islands electoral region . As a result of the election result, he received one of the seven list mandates of the electoral region and moved into the Scottish Parliament for the first time . In the 2011 parliamentary elections , Stewart applied for the direct mandate of the Inverness and Nairn constituency , but was clearly defeated by the SNP candidate Fergus Ewing . But he defended his mandate in the electoral region. In the Scottish general election in 2016 , Stewart received only the third highest percentage of votes in his constituency of Inverness and Nairn. However, he again received a list mandate for the Highland and Islands electoral region.
