Kenosha ( [kəˈnoʊʃə] , often [kəˈnɔʃə] ) is a city (with the status " City ") and the administrative seat of Kenosha County in the US state of Wisconsin . In the 2010 census , Kenosha had 99,218 inhabitants, the number of which had increased to 100,150 by 2012.
Kenosha is located in the north of the Chicago metropolitan area and is the fourth largest city in Wisconsin after Milwaukee , Madison and Green Bay .
On August 23, 2020, the 29-year-old African American Jacob Blake was shot several times in the back by two police officers during a police operation in Kenosha and seriously injured. The incident caused quite a stir in the wake of ongoing US-wide protests against police violence against African Americans, in particular the death of George Floyd . The incident sparked protests in many cities in Kenosha and across the country.

Kenosha is located in southeastern Wisconsin on the west bank of Lake Michigan three miles north of the Illinois border . The geographical coordinates of Kenosha are 42 ° 34'56 "north latitude and 87 ° 50'44" west longitude. The urban area extends over an area of 62.1 km².
Neighboring towns to Kenosha are Winthrop Harbor , Illinois (7.5 miles south), Pleasant Prairie (on the southwest city limits), Bristol (12.8 miles west), Mount Pleasant (13.6 miles northwest), and Racine (17.4 miles) north).

Surname
The Potawatomi Indians called the entire area gnozhé (" pike- place"). The Anishinabe Indians called the place Masu-kinoja ("spawning place for trout "). Thousands of fish swam here in Lake Michigan . Catching these fish fed the tribes for months. That's why there is a town in Michigan called Masu-kegan.
The Indian name was transferred to English and thus to Kenosha. The locals also call their city “K-Town” or “Keno” for short.

The city is directly connected to Chicago in the south via the METRA train system. A tram connection has existed from this station since 2000 for the first time since 1932 . It leads to the new Harbourpark residential area on the shores of Lake Michigan, which was set up on the former Chrysler site.
With the Kenosha Regional Airport located in the northwest of the city, the city has a regional airport. The nearest major airports are Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee (49.1 km north) and O'Hare International Airport in Chicago (81.4 km south).
