Milt Herth
Milton "Milt" Herth (* 11. March 1902 in Kenosha , Wisconsin ; † 18th June 1969 in Las Vegas , Nevada ) was an American jazz - organist .
Milt Herth was a jazz organist known in the 1930s who played the Hammond organ shortly after it was invented. Herth came from Wisconsin , got a job as organist at a local radio station in 1935 and played with the jazz pianist Willie The Lion Smith in Chicago from 1937 , on whose recordings for Decca Records he participated. Herth, Smith and drummer O'Neill Spencer then formed the Milt Herth Trio, which was expanded to a quartet in April 1938 with Teddy Bunn on guitar. and recorded a number of 78s for Decca, Owl and Coral Records , including a. Versions of well-known standards such as Basin Street Blues , Lambeth Walk, You are beautiful with me or Black and Tan Fantasy , or pop songs like Peggy O'Neil .
Herth, who also played with Louis Armstrong and Billy Kyle , also appeared in various short films such as Love and Onions (1935), Swing Styles (1939) and Jingle Belles , (1941), as well as the longer feature film Juke Box Jenny (1942) ).
He died in Las Vegas in 1969.
