Daniel J. Travanti , actually Danielo Giovanni Travanti (born March 7, 1940 in Kenosha , Wisconsin ) is an American actor .
Life
Danielo Giovanni Travanti was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, one of five children of Italian immigrants. Travanti was a good student and athlete in high school, which is why he received scholarships from Harvard University , Princeton University and Dartmouth College . He decided to study at the University of Wisconsin – Madison . During this time he came into contact with acting and decided against his football scholarship and to study at the Yale School of Drama . From the mid-1960s, he appeared in several TV series and finally made his debut in the role of Carlo in the 1965 published and Joseph Cates staged crime drama Who Killed Teddy Bear on the side of Sal Mineo , Juliet Prowse and Elaine Stritch on the canvas .
From 1981 to 1987, Travanti played one of the lead roles in the Hill Street Police Station television series . On the side of Veronica Hamel , Bruce Weitz and Joe Spano he played the character of Captain Francis X. Furillo. For this, he was nominated for an Emmy five times in a row for Best Actor in a Drama Series from 1981 to 1985 , winning the award in 1981 and 1982 respectively. He was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Series - Drama five times in a row from 1982 to 1986 , receiving the award at the 1982 Golden Globe Awards .
