Joe Spano

Joe Spano (born July 7, 1946 in San Francisco , California ) is an American actor. He became famous for his Emmy- nominated role in the US television series Hill Street Police Station and as FBI Special Agent Tobias Fornell in Navy CIS .

Life

Joe Spano was born in San Francisco, California, to Virginia Jean (nee Carpenter) and Vincent Dante Spano, a physicist. He attended Archbishop Riordan High School in San Francisco and graduated from the University of California , Berkeley. Spano can mostly be seen in guest roles in various television series and in smaller film roles. His larger series roles include the role of Detective Henry Goldblume in the television series Hill Street Police Station from 1981 to 1987 . In 1989 he received the Primetime Emmy Award for Best Guest Actor for his role as John Saringo in the drama series The Night Hawk . Since 2003 he has played the recurring role of FBI agent Tobias Fornell in the crime series Navy CIS .

He adopted two girls with his wife, Joan, a therapist.
