Gerd Wittmann

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gerd Wittmann (born January 30, 1945 in Sonthofen , Bavaria ) is a former German ice hockey coach who coached various clubs mainly in the 2nd Bundesliga . Most recently he was the head coach of his home club ERC Sonthofen , and in the 2015/16 season he saved the club from a sporty decline. In the 2016/17 season, however, he left his position there after a disastrous start to the season and resigned.

Career

From the 1984/85 season Wittmann trained the second division club ERC Sonthofen , this commitment was only interrupted by a job at the league competitor EV Füssen in the 1985/86 season . After separating from his hometown club, the Bavarian took over SC Memmingen , with whom he became league champion in 1991 and thus promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga . In 1993 Gerd Wittmann signed his first contract with Heilbronner EC. With the Unterländer, the coach became South German champions in the first joint season and then managed to move up to the second-class “1. League". After two years in Heilbronn, Wittmann returned to ERC Sonthofen in 1995, which he, like the ERSC Amberg a year later, was also placed in the “1. League ”.

During the 1997/98 season , however, the ERSC separated from its previous trainer, so Wittmann took over the Heilbronn EC as an interim trainer after Jiří Kochta was dismissed . After he was able to keep the class with the HEC, the Bavarian signed a contract with the league competitor ERC Ingolstadt , where he was released during the season. In the major league season 1999/00 Gerd Wittmann led the fifth team he supervised in the second highest division with the EHC Straubing , but after almost three years of working together, the coach and the EHC went their separate ways. Wittmann returned to Heilbronn for the second time as a youth coach and jumped in there again as interim coach of the professional team both in the 2002/03 season and in the 2003/04 season .
