In the 1999/2000 season , the league, which in the preseason was still under the name 1. League South and 1. League North , was again given its old name Oberliga in the form of Oberliga Süd and Oberliga Nord .

Before the season

The following happened before the season

in the Oberliga Süd:

• The ESC Munich had athletically qualified for the Oberliga Süd and announced its team after the Munich Barons were installed, but EV Landshut , whose license for the DEL the Munich Barons bought up, took part in the Oberliga Süd.
• The EHC Waldkraiburg withdrew its team from the league and continued playing in the leagues of the Bavarian Ice Sports Association in the Bavarian State League (5th division).

in the Oberliga Nord:

• The team of the Jungadler Mannheim , which was founded by the Adler Mannheim in the summer of 1999 in cooperation with the German Ice Hockey Federation , has been newly accepted.
• Instead of the bankrupt EC in Hanover , the KEV Hanover team takes part in the game.
• The team from VERC Lauterbach was able to prevail in the dispute against the Hessian Ice Sports Association and achieve participation in the league.
• The Dresdner Eislöwen received the request to take part in the group north, although they had not qualified as a representative of the Saxon Ice Sports Association in the promotion round to the Regionalliga Süd 1999/2000, and were accepted into the league after the license documents had been submitted.

Oberliga Nord

In the north, the preliminary round was played as a double round. After the preliminary round, the participants in places 1 to 8 played a play-off round , while the participants in places 9 to 14 took part in a qualifying round .

In the play-off round , the other four participants in the promotion play-offs to the 2nd Bundesliga were determined, while the losers qualified for the Oberliga 2000/01 .

After the qualifying round , the teams in 5th and 6th place should be relegated to the corresponding regional leagues - which happened to the Herner EV and the VERC Lauterbach .

From the regional leagues to the north , the could Herford EC qualify.

Preliminary round

The teams of places 1-8 took part in the play-off round of the Oberliga Nord. The teams of places 9-14 took part in the qualifying round for the Oberliga 2000/01.

Oberliga Süd

In the south, the preliminary round was first played as a single round, after which the participants in places 1 to 8 took part in the placement round with the 13th of the 2nd Bundesliga 1999/2000 - Braunlager EHC / Harz - and the participants in places 9 to 14 took part in the qualification round with the teams from the Regionalliga Süd , after which 6 teams qualify for the Oberliga 2000/01 .

After the placement round , the participants in places 1 to 4 played the promotion playoff to the 2nd Bundesliga with the participants of the Oberliga Nord, while the participants in places 5 to 9 qualified for the Oberliga 2000/01 - this was achieved by the teams from ERSC Amberg , 1. EV Weiden and TEV Miesbach no longer.

The teams in places 1-8 took part in the placement round. The teams in places 9-14 take part in the qualifying round against the participants from the Regionalliga Süd .

Placement round

In addition to the eight best teams in the upper league preliminary round, Braunlager EHC took part in the placement round as the last-placed team in the 2nd Bundesliga to secure a place for the promotion play-offs.

After the end of the placement round, the participants in places 1 to 4 will take part in the promotion play-offs to the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga 2000/01 , while the other participants are qualified for the ice hockey Oberliga 2000/01 .

Promotion play-offs

To take part in the 2nd Bundesliga 2000/01 , the four qualifying teams from the Oberliga Nord and Süd played against each other.

The EV Landshut and the EHC Straubing had thus qualified for the 2nd Bundesliga 2000/01 . The EV Landshut waived the promotion according to an agreement with the cooperation partner Munich Barons . With this waiver and the acquisition of the DEL license by Iserlohner EC , both REV Bremerhaven and TSV 1862 Erding were promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga.
