Originally, the division of the league into two groups, north and south, was planned, due to the withdrawal of the Eisbären Juniors Berlin , Rostock EC , ESC Halle and the waiver of promotion by the regional league champions North, East, Hesse and Bavaria, the division did not materialize . The Blue Lions Leipzig had filed for bankruptcy in the previous season, but could still have started in the Oberliga Nord with a special permit. Due to the failure of the Oberliga Nord, this exemption became invalid and Leipzig has to withdraw to the Regionalliga Ost. Finally, the champions of the Baden-Württembergliga ESV Hügelsheim withdrew his license application, so that EHC Dortmund was the only newcomer to start the new season. In addition to the Tölzer Löwen as relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga, the Bavarian upper division clubs EV Landsberg , EV Füssen , EHC Klostersee , Starbulls Rosenheim , Deggendorf Fire , EHF Passau Black Hawks , EC Peiting , from Hesse the Red Devils Bad Nauheim and from NRW the Herner EV 2007 . The latter played their games until shortly before the end of the main round in Gelsenkirchen .
