The ice hockey league , the third highest division in German ice hockey , will be played for the fourth time in four regional groups in the 2013/14 season. The North and South groups are organized by the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB), the West group by the North Rhine-Westphalia Ice Sports Association (LEV-NRW) and the East group by the Berlin Ice Sports Association (LEV-Berlin). At the end of the season, the northern, western and eastern leagues play together in two parallel groups, the two group winners of which together with the two play-off winners of the Oberliga Süd and the two play-down losers of the DEL2 in the Move in relegation round to DEL2. The first four teams of this round are qualified for the 14-team DEL2 .

Oberliga Nord

The Oberliga Nord covers the area of ​​the federal states of Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein. The game operations will be organized by the DEB for the first time.

Definition of participants

For the 2013/14 season, the participants of the Oberliga Nord 2012/13 were qualified. For the league, the participants of the upper and regional league of the previous year as well as the champions of the Association League North could register. However, most of the clubs in the Regionalliga Nord refrained from being promoted for financial reasons. New to the league was the parent club of the second division club Hannover Indians , which went into bankruptcy . From the regional league the SC Langenhagen reported , which will take over the name of the former DEL club Hannover Scorpions . The Harz Falcons reported Braunlage from the Association League. The Weserstars Bremen withdrew for financial reasons.

The nine participating teams first played a main round in double-round mode (2 × round trip), which started on October 4 and ended on February 9, 2014, from the champions of the Oberliga Nord. From this round, those placed 1 to 4 qualified for the interlocking round with the finalists of the upper leagues East and West.

The remaining five clubs played the Oberliga Nord Cup in two best-of-three rounds and a qualifying round.

The ECC Preussen Berlin withdrew from the league.

The eight participating teams first played a main round in double-round mode (2 × two-way round), which started on October 4 and ended on February 9, 2014, from the champions of the Oberliga Ost. The Oberliga West covers the area of ​​the federal states of Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. The games are organized by the Ice Sports Association of North Rhine-Westphalia (LEV-NRW).

Participant and mode

The EC Rote Teufel Bad Nauheim was promoted to the DEL2 as the league champions of the 2012/13 season. The Krefelder EV withdrew its team. The EHC Neuwied rose in the relegation round. The 2007 Herner EV and the Grefrather EG are the newcomers. Contrary to the original announcement, the Neusser EV will refuse to move up into the league, but will participate in the league. The Herford EV withdrew to the NRW League. The EHC Dortmund did not report the team in time for the game operation.

The ten participating teams first played the main round from September 27 to December 15, 2013 in a single-round mode (home and return). From this round, those placed 1 to 6 qualified for the final round. In the final round, the champions of the Oberliga West were played from December 20, 2013 to February 9, 2014 in double-round mode (2 × two-way round). The 7th to 10th place in the main round play together with the 1st to 4th place in the Regionalliga West in the cup round the athletic qualification for remaining or promotion to the Oberliga West and the Oberliga West Cup.

As a result of the cup round, all the upper division clubs were able to keep their class, with EHC Neuwied and the youth team of the Kassel Huskies added as newcomers . The overall winner of this round was the undefeated Mosquitoes Essen .

The Oberliga Süd covers the area of ​​Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria and is played under the direction of the DEB.

Participant and mode

Since no team from the 2nd Bundesliga was relegated to the Oberliga Süd, the Erding Gladiators stayed in the league despite being relegated. New in the league is the promoted EHC Bayreuth , as the champion of the Regionalliga Süd-West - EHC Eisbären Heilbronn - did not play the promotion games.

Since the DEL2 will be increased to 14 teams for the next season , the first four teams of the round will qualify for the DEL2. In addition to the DEL2 teams, the Frankfurter Löwen and the Kassel Huskies were able to prevail and achieved promotion.
