As the winner of the Oberliga-Nord-Pokal, the Adendorfer EC with its "Heidschnucken" had the chance to take part in the DEB-Pokal 2012/13. However, due to a mistake in the implementation regulations of the LEV Lower Saxony, a third starting place was erroneously awarded next to the two first-place winners in the league without any legal basis. For a long time the question whether and to what extent the DEB was aware of it remained a matter of dispute.

The champions of the Regionalliga Süd-West, who are also entitled to promotion, the Stuttgart Rebels initially received an extension of the deadline, but did not exercise their promotion right either.

Due to the relegation of SC Riessersee and the Bietigheim Steelers in the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga as well as the withdrawal of the Passau Black Hawks, the Erdinger team remained in the top division. Both teams would have been relegated to the Oberliga Süd. The corresponding regulation in the implementation regulations states, however, that the relegated athlete remains in the league if the league's target strength of 12 teams is not achieved.

Qualification play-offs

At the end of the preliminary round, the first eight teams in a best-of-five series play off the four teams of the Oberliga Süd, which meet in the promotion play-offs against the representatives of the Oberligen West, Ost and Nord. They took place between March 2 and March 11, 2012.

Play-offs

The four qualified teams from the group south and the four qualified teams from the final round of the north groups take part in the play-offs for promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. In the knockout system , a promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga is determined according to the best-of-five mode. The games will take place between March 16, 2012 and April 15, 2012.

The ranking of the final round participants for the play-offs was determined as follows:

  • 1. Placement of the club in the respective final table (first in a group is ranked higher than second in a group)
  • 2. Better placement in the final table of the regional main round, in the event that tied clubs come from the same league. (E.g .: in one group the first in a major league is first and in the other group the second in the same major league is first)
  • 3. In the event that tied clubs come from different major leagues, the club that has scored more points in its group will be ranked higher. If both clubs have the same number of points, the better goal difference decides, if this is also identical, the more goals scored decide and if these are also identical, the lottery decides. (E.g .: In group A, the first placed OL North is first with 12 points and in group B third place is the OL West first with 14 points - first group B takes first place and first group A takes second)
