The Adendorfer Ice Hockey Club is a German ice hockey club from Adendorf near Lüneburg in Lower Saxony , which plays in the fourth-class Regionalliga Nord . A predecessor club with a similar name was previously active in the second highest German division.

history

Adendorf ice hockey developed from the mid-1970s after the construction of the first artificial ice rink in the district. The local club TSV Adendorf founded an ice hockey department, which lasted until 1994 and last played in 1994 in the third-class Oberliga Nord . After internal disagreements about the budget for the coming season, the TSV board withdrew its announcement for the top division season 1994/95 in the summer of 1994. The DEB responded with an immediate ban on all men's teams for one year and made a hoped-for start in the regional league impossible. As a result of this ban, the first Adendorf ice hockey club ("AEC" for short) was founded on July 21, 1994 . His first season, the 1994/95 season , the AEC played in the Regionalliga Nord / Ost and became champions. In the subsequent relegation you could qualify for the third-class 2nd League North. As a promoter to the 2nd League North, the team was able to show a fourth place in the following season after the preliminary round, but had to be content with eighth place in the promotion round, which was not enough for promotion. After this season, the previous main sponsor withdrew and left a glaring gap in the budget for the coming season, which could only be filled by the new first chairman of the AEC, Wilfried Abramowski. The 1996/97 season was marked by many player changes, which resulted from a weak preliminary round of the team when you could only reach sixth place. In the subsequent relegation to the 1st League North they did not get beyond seventh place and therefore had to compete in the playoffs against the table runner-up REV Bremerhaven . The AEC lost this series 1: 2 (5: 6.6: 3.2: 9) and had to end the season.

In the 1997/98 season , the AEC started after the restructuring of the leagues in the 1st League North, but was only able to occupy 16th place at the end of the preliminary round. In the relegation, the club finally missed relegation by reaching eighth place and was relegated to the, now third-class, 1st League North. In the following season, the Adendorfer EC again missed the championship round, but was able to achieve third place in the relegation.

The 1999/00 season was the most successful of the club in the third-class Oberliga Nord, which was again played under the old name . The AEC surprisingly came in sixth and was able to knock out the promotion candidate Ratinger Ice Aliens with 3-0 wins in the play-offs . Although the AEC failed in the following series at EHC Straubing with 0: 2, reaching the semi-finals meant the greatest success in the club's history so far. In the following season , the AEC celebrated its entry into the play-offs again, but had to admit defeat to the ETC Crimmitschau in the first round . Due to a lost legal dispute and an associated severance payment to an ex-trainer, the Adendorfer EC had to file for bankruptcy in the summer .

The club was then re-established as Adendorfer Eissport Club before the 2001/02 season . In the new fourth-class Regionalliga Nord / Ost, the team reached third place in the preliminary round and was seventh in the subsequent championship round. Also in the 2002/03 season the AEC was able to achieve third place and in the championship round moved up to fourth place compared to the previous year. In the 2003/04 season , the club managed to move into the championship round as fourth, where he was only able to reach ninth place.

In the spring of 2004, the board of the AEC expressed interest in the offer of promotion to the third-class Oberliga Nord , which was ultimately not taken. The AEC went into the next year with a new board and trainer and was able to qualify for the championship round in fourth place. The commitment of goalkeeper Varian Kirst helped the team to fifth place in the championship round, in which the team beat the eventual champions Ratingen.

The 2005/06 season was the last of the ice sports club: After a disastrous preliminary round, the AEC missed the championship round in ninth place and could not prevent relegation with a falling team. Due to the sporting misery and the associated financial losses, the AEC was insolvent in March 2006 and filed for bankruptcy. In order to continue the tradition of ice hockey in the club and not have to recommend the transfer to the EHC Adendorf to the members, especially the youngsters, the second Adendorfer ice hockey club was founded in July 2006 . After a season in the association league, he played again from 2007 in the fourth-class regional league, which in the 2008/09 season, in contrast to the 2007/08 season, was only carried out as the regional league north.

In May 2009 the members of the EHC Adendorf , which had existed alongside the AEC since the 1999/00 season, decided to dissolve their club on July 1, 2009 and recommend that the members transfer to the AEC.

Due to the league reform and the reorganization of the upper leagues in the spring of 2010, the AEC reported for the 2010/11 season again for the Oberliga Nord, in which the AEC missed the second place required for the promotion round and was fifth after a good start. In the relegation, however, he was able to confidently secure relegation. The start of the 2011/12 season was initially positive, but as a result all comparisons against the direct competitors for the promotion lap positions were lost. In the following cup round it prevailed against the teams better placed in the preliminary round and, after two clear wins in the finals against the Hanover Braves, qualified for the DEB Cup 2012/13. In the 2013/14 season, in which the league was organized by the German Ice Hockey Federation instead of the LEV Lower Saxony, the team reached seventh place after the preliminary round. In the summer of 2014, those responsible for the club - and those of the Adendorfer EC ice hockey company UG - decided who organized the men's team of the "Heidschnucken" for financial reasons, to withdraw the team from the - third class - Oberliga Nord to the - fourth class - Regionalliga Nord. In the following regional league season a third place succeeded in the preliminary round and thus the qualification for the playoffs. In the quarter-finals of this, the AEC was able to beat the United North Stars (11: 0 & 3: 1), but had to admit defeat to the eventual champions from Bremen in the semifinals, very close 4: 3 & 7: 9.

With just one defeat, the AEC secured first place in the preliminary round table for the 2015/16 season. In the championship round, a duel with the Weserstars Bremen developed for the championship. While the AEC won the first leg in Bremen 3-2 after extra time, they lost the second leg in Adendorf in front of 1786 spectators 3-2 and thus became runner-up. The AEC also played in the Regionalliga Nord in the following seasons.

At the beginning of the 2019/20 regional league season , damage was found to the cooling system in the Adendorfer Halle. After further shortcomings were discovered, the AEC had to withdraw for the season and went bankrupt as a result. The club plans to have completed the insolvency proceedings by the 2020/21 season and to exercise its right to start in the regional league guaranteed by the association.

Club culture

Fans and rivalries

From the joint seasons in the 1990s, a rivalry with the Crocodiles Hamburg had built up. This was based in particular on the comparison between the cosmopolitan city and the village as well as the fact that the Hamburg team was always put on hold as a favorite due to higher budgets (and the stronger team on paper). After the bankruptcy of Hamburg and the associated new start in the association league, the relationship cooled noticeably, also because the Crocodiles experienced a radical decline in viewers due to the move of the Munich Barons to Hamburg (renamed Hamburg Freezers ). With the EHC Timmendorfer Strand 06 , the AEC has shared the league since 1998 and connects what is probably the strongest rivalry. The “derby” of the villages has its origin in the regular close games between the “mussel pushers” (Timmendorf) and the “farmers” (Adendorf). In the last few seasons HSV has developed into a new rival.
