In the 2002/03 season , the regional leagues North / East and North Rhine-Westphalia as well as the new Baden-Württemberg League and Bayern League are the fourth-highest leagues in German ice hockey. The champions of the leagues rise to the top division at the end of the season. For the first time, the regional league was organized throughout Germany by the regional associations, and not by the DEB, as was previously the case with the Regional League South. Therefore the new regional league structure was created and the previous regional league south was dissolved and replaced by the Bayern league and Baden-Württemberg league.

Regionalliga North / East

mode

The Regionalliga North / East was held in two groups (North and East) with seven and nine participants respectively. The teams from the north group played against each other four times, those of the east group twice. The five best teams per group then qualified for the final round. The master rose to the league. The relay team had to go to the relegation round with the participants of the lower class leagues.

The champion and promoted BC Preussen Berlin, appeared in the next season under the new and old name "Berlin Capitals" in the league. EHC Wolfsburg 1b and REV Bremerhaven 1b were able to prevail from the relegation round of Season North - ESC Wedemark Scorpions Farmers was able to hold the class. The Harsefeld Tigers were also allowed to move up, as the 1b team of EC Timmendorfer Strand was not allowed to move up. From the East Season, the Blue Lions Leipzig and Tornado Niesky made it to the top - the ESC Erfurt, EHV Schönheide and FASS Berlin managed to stay up. The USG Chemnitz was relegated. Eintracht Braunschweig and ES Weißwasser 1b withdrew their teams for the coming season.

Regionalliga North Rhine-Westphalia

The State Ice Sports Association of North Rhine-Westphalia organized the Regionalliga NRW.

The nine participating clubs played the eight playoff participants in a double round. The winner of the playoffs was athletic climber in the league. There was no athletic relegation.

mode

The Baden-Württemberg League was held with nine participants. The top five teams qualified for the promotion round. The first-placed Stuttgart Wizards rose directly to the top division. In terms of sport, there was no relegation as the teams from the Schwenninger Fire Wings and Heilbronner EC 1b withdrew their teams. The points were still distributed according to the 2-point rule.

Bayern League

The Bavarian League was organized by the Bavarian Ice Sports Association. New in the league were the ESC Dorfen (relegated OL) as well as the two newcomers with the EV Landsberg 2000 ( BLL champion ) and the Starbulls Rosenheim (BLL 2nd place). EV Regensburg 1b, EV Lindau and EV Moosburg (all relegated BLL) were no longer there .

mode

The 16 participants played in two seasons (west and east) of eight teams each. The four best teams in each season qualify for the joint intermediate round. In the playoffs following the intermediate round, the champions are played out and are promoted to the top division. The remaining teams play in a relegation round. The last two of the relegation round were relegated directly to the Bavarian State League .
