history

Swimming pool in the 1930s

The beginnings and foundation (1936 to 1949)

In 1936, some members of FC Schönheide created a syringe ice rink in Wolfsgrün together with the Wolfsgrüner curlingers . Three years later, a natural ice rink was set up in the community pool of Schönheide. On December 31, 1939, almost 1,000 spectators saw the first game between Schönheide and SC Astoria Berlin. Since then, ice hockey has been played regularly at this location.

First successes and withdrawal from BSG gaming operations (1949 to 1959)

In the winter of 1949/50, the Schönheider took part in the Saxon championships for the first time. A year later, they even reached the final of the championship in Saxony. In 1951, the stadium was expanded and grandstands and rule-compliant boards were built for regular games. In the GDR the team played under the name BSG Aufbau Schönheide . In the 1951/52 season, the BSG won the state championship. The team was withdrawn from the game operations in the 1958/59 season due to a lack of players after their promotion to the GDR league in 1956 . From 1971, the BSG regularly took part in the final tournaments of the GDR's best determination for amateur athletes, provided the weather allowed it. The stadium still only had a pure natural ice surface.

After reunification (1990 to 2008)

After German reunification, EHV Schönheide was founded from the BSG as a pure ice hockey club. They took part in the Sachsenliga for a long time and continued to play on natural ice. Without artificial ice, games were weather-dependent and so the Crimmitschau and Chemnitz locations were used for individual home games when possible. But in the mid-1990s the local council decided to convert the ice rink into an open-air artificial ice facility. In 1996, the new stadium was built with the help of large subsidies. The first season on artificial ice was played in the Sachsenliga in 1996/97 . In the first home game on December 28, 1996, they won 11-2 against Grün-Weiß Weißwasser in front of 600 spectators. After the 1999/00 season, it was decided to voluntarily relegate to the State League of Saxony. In the preliminary round they became first of the West season and rose through two victories in the relegation games against the season winner East, the New Kings Weißwasser as national champion 2000/01 immediately back in the Sachsenliga. A roofing over the ice rink was decided three years after construction. This construction phase was completed in October 2001 in time for the start of the season. As a climber, the team immediately became runner-up in 2001/02 behind the ESC Saaleteufel Halle . The highlight of this season, however, was reaching the big cup final against the professional team of the Dresdner Eislöwen . They qualified for this final by winning against ERC Chemnitz 1b (11: 2), 1. FEV Klingenthal / Brunndöbra (12: 0), Grün-Weiß Weißwasser (27: 2) and in the amateur final they defeated the up to then undefeated Saaleteufel Halle with 3: 2. This was the greatest success to date since it was founded in 1990.

As the Saxony Cup winner of the amateurs, you went into the two games against ESC Dresden as a clear outsider. In order to increase the audience capacity for the home game on February 12, 2002, Euro pallets were installed by fans and club members in the rear area of the standing room . In front of the record crowd of 1,127 spectators, the wolves ultimately lost 6:10 to the ice lions, who were stronger in terms of fitness and play. The second leg on February 19. in the ice rink Pieschener Allee they lost 2: 4.

Since the 2002/2003 season, EHV Schönheide has played in the fourth highest division without interruption. After the first few years in the regional league were rather mixed, the team was able to establish itself and became known nationwide through the unexpected and sensational win of the regional league championship in the 2007/08 season .

Resignation in 2008

The 2007/08 season represented the high point in the history of EHV Schönheide. Completely unexpected and with a young squad, they took first place in the preliminary and championship round, and prevailed in the play-off final in the best-of-three mode with 2: 1 wins against ECC Preussen Juniors Berlin .

This made it clear as a climber in the upper league . However, the club announced a few weeks later that as a qualified regional league champion, he would waive the right to promotion. The board of the EHV Schönheide justified this decision with the financial and economic prerequisites of the club as well as with the lack of a regular game and training operation for the big league.

The 2008/09 season and the bankruptcy

In the 2008/09 season, the team of EHV Schönheide reached third place after the preliminary round of the play-offs for the championship of the Regionalliga Ost. In front of over 1,100 spectators in the Erfurt ice rink, the EHV Schönheide lost in the third and decisive semi-final game against the Black Dragons Erfurt 7: 8 and thus missed the renewed entry into the playoff final of the Regionalliga Ost.

Due to the threat of insolvency and over-indebtedness, the board of the association was forced in April 2009 to submit an application to open insolvency proceedings at the Chemnitz District Court. This step became necessary because the claims of creditors could no longer be served. The reason for this was lost income from planned sponsorship agreements and unpaid membership fees in the previous two years. The budget for the 2008/09 season could be met by and large, but old liabilities from previous seasons had to be settled with the reduced funds available. In addition, the club lost significant income from ice rink operations. Increased costs and less interest in public free-wheeling, also due to the severely limited usage time of the ice rink, made it no longer possible to cover costs. The reduction of the regional league to seven teams with correspondingly fewer home games reduced the club's income from entry, catering and additional sponsorship money.

New establishment of EHV Schönheide 09 (since 2009)

A successor club was founded under the name EHV Schönheide 09 eV to continue gaming operations. With the active help of the community of Schönheide, sponsors and business partners, it was possible in a short time to work out new concepts together and to cover the necessary budget for the 2009/2010 season, thus continuing the more than 70-year tradition of Schönheide ice hockey.

With the smallest squad in the entire league and through a cooperation agreement with Eispiraten Crimmitschau GmbH and the parent club ETC Crimmitschau eV, it was possible to set up a competitive team that ended the 2009/10 season in fifth place in the table. Except against the professional teams from Leipzig and Halle, the EHV were able to make all direct comparisons against the rest of the competition evenly or even win.

Neue Heimat Oberliga (from 2010)

Due to the structural changes in the DEB below the 2nd Bundesliga, the Wolves competed in the newly created Oberliga Ost from the 2010/11 season, which is the third-highest division in German ice hockey.

Oberliga Süd (2015 to 2017)

The restructuring in the upper leagues run by the German Ice Hockey Federation made the club's longstanding wish to participate in the Oberliga Süd due to its geographic location come true in the summer of 2015.

The licensing documents were submitted on time and passed the DEB's examination, whereupon the license for participation in the Oberliga Süd was granted for the 2015/2016 season. After the 2015/16 season ended in 11th place, the team stayed in the league due to the withdrawal of EHC Klostersee .

During the 2016/17 season , the EHV Schönheide 09 association filed for insolvency proceedings on December 12, 2016. Attorney Markus Merbecks was appointed preliminary insolvency administrator by the Chemnitz District Court . Although the board announced the cessation of the league team's game operations at the same time as the bankruptcy petition was announced, on December 21, 2016, the announcement of the continuation of the game operations in the Oberliga Süd succeeded . Due to rank 12 after the preliminary round, the team took part in the interlocking round of the Bayernliga . In the following playoff round, the team was defeated by EV Lindau and was relegated from the top division. Moving up to the Oberliga Süd would have been possible, but could no longer be financed. Appropriate efforts were discontinued at the end of May 2017 and EHV Schönheide finally went into bankruptcy.

Schönheider Wolves (from 2017)

In the 2017/18 season , a team from the former Young Wolves Association started under the name Schönheider Wölfe in the Regionalliga Ost.

The ice hockey location Schönheide became known nationwide through the winners of the regional league championship in the 2007/08 season, as the winner of the East German Ice Hockey Cup 2011/12 and as the cup winners of the Oberliga mid 2014/15.

Jersey design and equipment

The Schönheider wolves traditionally play in the colors red, blue and white. Like all other teams, two different shirt designs will be used for the games. Following the example of the National Hockey League , the darker jerseys are used for home games and the lighter ones for away games. The trousers of the players are traditionally black, for both home and away games. The socks are kept in the basic color of the jersey worn. The jersey layout varies every or every other season.

The club provided regional champions several times in the junior departments. In addition, the club succeeded in introducing two former players to the DEB junior national team. Intensive youth work was already carried out when the association was founded. The youngsters from Schönheid play under the name of Young Wolves . - The municipality provides completely free training and playing time.

The club has six youth teams in four age groups, including small school children (Bambini), small school children, boys and school children. In the different age groups, syndicates were formed in order to allow complete teams to participate in league play. The young wolves cooperate with the offspring from Crimmitschau. The youngest of the youngsters do not take part in a league game, they compete against other teams in friendly matches and tournaments. The small school pupils are represented by two teams in registration classes 1 and 2. The boys also play with two teams in registration class 1 and 2. All teams play in the East German junior championship, which is organized by the state ice sports associations.

There is also an ice skating group for beginners. In addition, the Stützengrün elementary school conducts ice skating lessons in the ice rink twice a week with its 3rd grades as part of school sports. They are supported by players from the 1st team. This gives the club the opportunity to introduce talented children to ice hockey and train them optimally.

Club culture

Fans and followers

The EHV Schönheide 09, like its predecessor EHV, has a hard core of supporters that is above average compared to the other Oberliga Ost-Eishockey in relation to the number of inhabitants and population density of Schönheide. Even after bankruptcy and sporting failures, an average of 400–500 spectators attend the home games. This means that there has been no noticeable decline since the Sachsenliga compared to the previous seasons. When it comes to spectators (team sport) in the Erzgebirgskreis, they take 3rd place behind FC Erzgebirge Aue and EHV Aue .

The supporters are organized in two fan groups, an autonomous one, as well as the best-known formation of the EHV FREAKS , which usually gather in the middle part of the standing room - the so-called "alcohol block". From here they can reach the entire stadium and ensure uniform fan chants, calls from choirs, rhythmic drumming and organize choreographies. The fan club Schönheider Wölfe e. V. , which supported the EHV with personnel, for example with steward services and cleaning the stadium after the game, has now been dissolved.

With one of the EHV FREAKS since the 2011/12 season, launched action donations ton cup pledge , every year can be collected an average of 650 euros for the young and solemnly presented.

Trivia

After every goal scored for the Schönheider Wolves, the stadium announcer begins the goal announcement with the counting rhyme: "Ene, mene, miste, es rappelt in der" and all fans of the wolves in the stadium complete the sentence together and loudly with: "Kiste" .

Rivalries and friendships

A special rivalry existed between the fans of the wolves and those of the 1. FEV Klingenthal / Brunndöbra , due to the regional proximity and the common seasons in the GDR and the Sachsenliga. At the local derbies against the former arch rivals, up to 1,300 spectators made a pilgrimage to the then uncovered artificial ice stadium in Schönheide. However, with the bankruptcy of 1. FEV, the associated re-establishment of EHV Klingenthal and its remaining in lower-class leagues, this rivalry subsided.

Since 2008, the derbies against ERV Chemnitz 07 have always been particularly explosive due to the geographical origin of the two teams, the “conflict” between the district capital and Dorf, as well as the frequent player changes between the two clubs.

Due to the numerous and not always undisputed duels in championship games since the 2001/2002 season, there is also a rivalry between the fans of ELV Niesky . This typically manifests itself in a heated to aggressive mood during the games, combined with increased security requirements through the use of security services.

Some of the fans of the EHV had a club and fan friendship with the EHC Solingen from the Regionalliga NRW , which was maintained with occasional visits to games. Since this association went bankrupt and has since been dissolved, contact has been broken off. There are also good relationships with the fans of the ETC Crimmitschau and the Black Dragons Erfurt , as well as with the fans of the ESC Hassfurt "Hawks" .

Due to inadequate financial and economic conditions, the EHV Schönheide waived many seasons on a second men's team. In order to allow young talented players to gain experience and match practice in the men's area, the Schönheider team cooperated with their former local rivals EHV Klingenthal. The SG Klingenthal / Schönheide took part in the Saxony League in the 2007/08 and 2008/09 seasons. The venue was the open-air stadium in Brunndöbra. Through this increased work and the better connection between the youth and senior areas, players should be introduced to the regional league team of that time.

Due to a fire in the ice rink in Klingenthal on the night of December 5, 2008, the remaining games had to be played in the local Wolfsbau artificial ice stadium . Since it was not yet possible to foresee when it would be possible to play again in the ice rink there, both clubs decided not to register the syndicate for gaming operations in the 2009/2010 season.

Due to the geographical proximity, the Schönheider Wölfe receive increased personal support from the second division Crimmitschau. The responsible persons of Eispiraten Crimmitschau GmbH and EHV Schönheide 09 eV signed a corresponding cooperation agreement as part of the sponsorship license program , according to which players from the second division team of Eispiraten are given a sponsorship / double license and can therefore also appear for the wolves. The aim here is to promote and support young players so that they can gain gaming experience.

For talented young players of all ages in Schönheide there is also the opportunity to move to Crimmitschau to play in one of the youth teams there at the Bundesliga level or in the East German championship in registration class 1.

Ice hockey in Schönheide also benefits from the good conditions and the young talent in Crimmitschau. The people in charge of both clubs are keen to maintain a good partnership in the future, even beyond the senior sector, in order to keep and promote promising young talents in the region.

The cooperation agreement between the two clubs was extended for the 2015/16 season.

mascot

The traditional mascot of EHV Schönheide 09 is the wolf , which was already included in the coat of arms of the previous clubs . Before the wolves' home games, two young players in the form of a skater in a wolf costume step onto the ice rink and, together with the stadium announcer, try to raise the mood of the fans in the hall.
