The Sachsenliga was the highest division of the Saxon Ice Hockey Association and the partly fourth, partly fifth highest division within German ice hockey .
The league was founded in 1990. In the 1990s there was a substructure with the Landesliga Sachsen. The master of the Sachsenliga took part in the promotion round to the fourth-class 2nd League South. In addition to Saxon clubs, teams from the neighboring federal states of Thuringia (Erfurt) and Saxony-Anhalt (Halle) also occasionally take part in the game . After the establishment of the Regionalliga Ost, the Sachsenleague champion rose to it. From the 2007/2008 season, Berlin clubs also played in the league. In the course of a league reform for the 2011/12 season, the Sachsenliga became the new Regionalliga Ost as the substructure of the Oberliga Ost .
