Martin Sekera (born December 20, 1971 in Pardubice , Czechoslovakia ) is a German - Czech ice hockey player who was under contract as a player at EV Lindau from 2014 to 2018 . In the 2018/19 season he worked as a coach at ERC Sonthofen in the major league, which was also his first senior coaching position.

Career

Sekera learned how to handle pucks and clubs in his home country at HC Moeller Pardubice , for which he also went on the ice in the extra league at the beginning of his career . His first stop in Germany was the GEC Nordhorn , for which he scored over 160 points in two seasons. After eleven games at the extra league club HC Opava in the 1997/98 season, the Eispiraten Crimmitschau was offered , where his father Horymir Sekera acted as a coach. In total, Sekera played for the ETC for six years.

In the 2000/2001 season he became the team's top scorer, was seriously injured the following season (broken tibia and fibula) and started playing again too early. As a result, he could not call up his full performance potential and got caught in the crossfire of criticism. For the 2002/03 season his father was a coach at ES Weißwasser - his son Martin was still employed in Crimmitschau, but the new coach for West Saxony, Paul Sommer , was not satisfied with the Czech's attitude. His contract was therefore terminated and the Lausitzer Füchse struck on the transfer market. There he was able to convince in the first row with his former Crimmitschau colleague Dirk Rohrbach . In Weißwasser, Sekera became a crowd favorite and was able to distinguish itself as a reliable scorer in the 2003/04 and 2004/05 seasons. The 2005/06 season was unsatisfactory for both the Füchse and Sekera (among other things, his father was suspended as coach and replaced by Fred Carroll ), so Sekera looked for a new perspective for the following season. For the 2006/07 season, the manager of the Dresdner Eislöwen, Jan Tabor, hired him, in which Sekera ran up for the first time as a German citizen. In the 2007/08 season, Sekera was hunting for points for the mosquito food . For the 2008/09 season he was signed by the Fishtown Pinguins from Bremerhaven , before moving to the Selber Wölfen in the Bavarian Ice Hockey League in 2009.

In the 2009/2010 season he was the top scorer of the Selber Wolves in the Bavarian League. In the preliminary round he scored 70 scorer points in 28 games, including 23 goals and 47 assists. In the intermediate round, Martin Sekera managed 23 scorer points in six games, making him top scorer in the intermediate round. He was decisive for the top position of the wolves after the preliminary round and the same placement in the intermediate round. In three semifinals against EV Regensburg and two finals against TEV Miesbach for the Bavarian Championship, he scored three more goals and prepared six goals. In the end he became Bavarian runner- up with the Selber Wölfen and thus made it to the new ice hockey league 2010/11 . After a year with the Same wolves in the big leagues, he joined the 2011/12 season the Oberliga EHV Schönheide 09 at. In the 2012/13 and 2013/14 season he played for the upper division EHC Jonsdorfer Falken . In the 2014/15 season he signed with EV Lindau Islanders from the Bayern League . In October 2016 he injured himself during the game against ERC Sonthofen , whereupon he ended his active career.

Since June 2018 he has been a coach at ERC Sonthofen and trains the "Bulls" who, like the EV Lindau Islanders, also play in the Oberliga Süd.

In his spare time, Sekera likes to play inline hockey (was on the St. Louis Vipers team with Chris Rogles in goal in 1996 ) and golf , his nicknames are Hele or Martinû.
