The predecessor club of HC Slezan Opava is the Troppauer Eislaufverein, founded in 1868, which practiced the sport of ice hockey ( with the ball or with the disc ) from the 1908/1909 season .

After the annexation of the Sudetenland by the German Reich of Troppauer EV took 1940 part in the German Championship. Integrated into the NTSG Troppau , the team should also take part in the 1941 championship, but had to withdraw. With the end of the Second World War , the history of the Troppauer Ice Skating Club ended.

HC Slezan Opava

In 1996 HC Opava became champions of the 1st league and made it to the extra league . The club was able to hold up to the end of the 1998/99 season in the top division. This was followed by relegation to the first division and in 2006 relegation to the second division.

Ice rink

The club plays its home games in the 5,500-seat Zimní Stadium in Opava . The club recorded the highest average attendance in 1998/99, when an average of 3,484 spectators attended the club's games.

From 1927, the prerequisites for converting the existing natural ice rink into an artificial ice rink were created. Although construction work began in 1935, the renovation was not completed due to lack of money and in view of the political developments. In 1953 the artificial ice rink was built in place of the natural ice rink and roofed over in 1956.
