The ice hockey regional league of the 2007/2008 season had to reform again this year due to a large number of promoters in the major league. This time, however, the changes were limited. The Regionalliga Nordost appeared in two separate preliminary rounds, but provided a promotion place after a joint final round. The regional leagues of North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse , as well as the Baden-Württemberg league , played a promoted team in a joint final round, which was supplemented by the next best placed team, from the regional association that did not win. The champions and the losing playoff finalists were eligible for promotion from the Bayern League.

Regionalliga North-East

mode

In the 2007/2008 season, the Regionalliga North-East was divided into two seasons (North and East). The five best teams in each season qualified for the main round. The total of four remaining teams from the preliminary round (3 teams from the north and 1 team from the east) determined the relegated team in the relegation round. The four best teams in the main round played in the play-offs from the promoted to the league.

The ELV Tornado Niesky took over as the successor to SG Niesky / Weißwasser. The EHC Johnsdorfer Falken was promoted to champions of the Sachsenliga. The ESC Berlin 2007 was a newly founded ice hockey department in the Berlin ice skating club.

North season

Attendees

As a result of the insolvency of Braunlager SC Harz, the newly founded ESC Harzer Wölfe took over as the successor club this season. Since the remaining clubs were also new to the league through sporting promotions, this ultimately only consisted of newcomers.

The EHV Schönheide was entitled to take part in the ice hockey league 2008/09 as champions. However, just like the ECC Preussen Juniors from Berlin, he did without it. Both cited financial reasons as a determination for a waiver of the promotion and instead wanted to dare to do so in the coming season.

The EHC 05 Salzgitter Steelers was relegated to the Association League North. The ESC Berlin 2007 went bankrupt after the season and the teams reserve teams from Wedemark and Bremerhaven withdrew. The league was again divided into two independent regional leagues (north and east) for the coming season.

Regionalliga North Rhine-Westphalia

Until December 26, 2007, a single round was initially played with the eleven teams. The ESC Trier had to stop playing due to the closure of the ice rink during the preliminary round, and the games that were being played were canceled. The best six teams qualified for the promotion round to the league . The teams in places 7 to 11 qualified for the NRW Cup together with two national league clubs.

Promotion round to the league

mode

Originally it was planned that the ten athletically qualified participants (six from the Regionalliga North Rhine-Westphalia, two from the Regionalliga Hessen and two from the Baden-Württemberg-Liga) played a preliminary round as a single round. Since RSC Darmstadt from the Regionalliga Hessen decided not to participate, the preliminary round was only held with nine teams.

After the preliminary round, the best 4 teams qualify for the playoffs. The winner of the playoffs and the next best placed team in the final table from the non-winning national association can move up to the 2008/09 Oberliga .
