The EV Ravensburg (officially . Ice Sports Club Ravensburg eV ) is an ice hockey team from Ravensburg , whose origins date back to 1881. Since the 2007/08 season , the first team, the Ravensburg Tower Stars plays in the second tier of German football since 2013 in the DEL2 . The EVR teams play their home games in the 3418-seat CHG Arena .
history
The Ravensburg Ice Skating Club was founded on November 23, 1881 . Initially, a pond on the grounds of the Escher-Wyss machine factory served as an ice rink, and from 1925 a place at the Wernerhofweiher. At the beginning of the 1930s, the club moved to the tennis courts at the Veitsburg, where a natural ice surface was created using spray ice. The first Ravensburg ice hockey team was put together there on December 2, 1932. But the organizational effort and external problems such as weather conditions did not make it possible to carry out even a rudimentarily regulated game and training operation. Finally, the club was suspended from the association due to a lack of payments.
In 1948, the club began operating again on the natural ice surface on the Veitsburg, before the construction of a natural ice stadium on the nearby St. Christinahang began in 1954. This stadium was converted into the first artificial ice stadium in Württemberg in 1958. It was opened on October 18, 1958 with the international match between Germany and Switzerland in front of 7,000 spectators. As a result, the ice and roller skating club (ERV) was able to win several Württemberg championships and the 1967 regional league championship . From the league season 1968 the club was called Eissportverein Ravensburg (EV) .
In the 1989/90 season the club was again league champions. The home games regularly took place in front of 5,000 to 7,000 spectators. In the following years the club played in the league and rose in the 1972/73 season in the second highest German division, the 2nd Bundesliga. There the EV Ravensburg could not secure relegation and rose after a last place after the main round back into the league.
Despite the great popularity, the management level had to struggle with the increasingly expensive maintenance of the club's own stadium. Finally, after lengthy negotiations, the stadium was transferred to the city of Ravensburg. With promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga in the summer of 1973, the club was given the prospect of roofing over the stadium on St. Christinahang or building a new ice rink . After long discussions on local politics and a lengthy solution to financing, the Ravensburg ice rink was finally completed 30 years later with a capacity of 3300 seats. It was opened on December 21, 2003 with a game against EA Kempten .
At the end of the 2006/07 season , EV Ravensburg was able to return to the 2nd Bundesliga after an eleven-year absence. After the team placed fourth after the main round and were victorious in the play-off quarter-finals with 4-1 games against the Hannover Indians , the club ultimately also won the semifinals with 4-0 games against SC Riessersee and already qualified with reaching the final for the 2. Bundesliga 2007/08. After the final was lost with 0: 2 games against the Heilbronner Falken , the EVR could look back on a successful season with reaching the upper league runner-up and promotion to the second division. Following the athletic promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga , an extraordinary general meeting of the club decided on April 25, 2007 to spin off the professional team into a gaming company that plays under the name EVR Tower Stars . The ESBG shareholder shares were not outsourced from the association. In the first season in the 2nd Bundesliga, the club's management calculated a season budget of 1.8 million euros, so the Ravensburger were just above the league average. In the end, the club secured relegation in the play-downs. There the Tower Stars were able to prevail with 4-0 games against the team of EV Landsberg 2000 .
In 2011, the Towerstars celebrated the greatest successes in the club's history when they reached the final of the DEB Cup (the game against Starbulls Rosenheim was lost 2: 3) and became champions of the 2nd Bundesliga . The DEL rejected the Towerstars' participation in the 2011/12 match, as requested by the club, for financial reasons and due to an insufficient stadium.
In the 2018/19 season , the Towerstars won the DEL2 championship for the first time when they beat the Löwen Frankfurt 4-2 in the playoff final series.

The parent club
The amateur team competes in the fourth-class Regionalliga Süd-West . In addition, six different youth teams play for the club. The women's team takes part in the Baden-Württemberg State League.
For this purpose, the senior team Oldstars exists under the umbrella of EV Ravensburg , which has been around for over 40 years. In 2012 the “International Oldstar Cup” was held for the 30th time.
Venue
The EV Ravensburg teams play in the newly opened ice rink Ravensburg in 2003 . The hall has space for 3418 spectators (1168 seats). A new cooling technique is used: instead of ammonia, the ice surface is cooled by CO 2 gas that flows through a 22-kilometer pipe system under the ice. The ice rink is operated by Technischen Werken Schussental for the city of Ravensburg and, in addition to its use as an ice hockey location, is also the home of the figure skating club ESC Ravensburg .
