Brian Maloney (born September 27, 1978 in Bassano , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was last under contract with the Ravensburg Tower Stars from the DEL2 . Before that, he worked for the Krefeld Pinguine and Straubing Tigers from the German Ice Hockey League .
Career
Maloney began his career in 1997 in the Canadian Junior League British Columbia Junior Hockey League , in which he was active for the Chilliwack Chiefs . In his second season with the Chiefs, the left-shooter was one of the wingers with the highest points in his team and was able to score 115 points in 60 games .
Then Maloney received in the summer of 1999 a scholarship at Michigan State University , with which he played from then on in the US college league Central Collegiate Hockey Association . There the attacker was one of the top performers in the team and was able to constantly increase his points. After he had finished his studies, Maloney moved during the 2002/03 season, without ever being drafted , in the American Hockey League to the Chicago Wolves , the farm team of the Atlanta Thrashers from the NHL . During his time with the Wolves, however, the Canadian never got the chance to prove himself in the NHL and so he decided, despite good statistics, to move to the Ottawa Senators . The Canadian franchise , however, like the Thrashers before, only used it on their farm team, the Binghamton Senators .
The left shooter completed 39 games in Binghamton and scored 13 points scorer. For the 2007/08 season , the striker signed a contract with the Krefeld Penguins from the German Ice Hockey League . With the Krefelderm Maloney just missed the play-offs with an eleventh place after the main round, in total the Canadian wore the KEV jersey 54 times and scored 38 points. His contract was not extended towards the end of the season, however, so the attacker moved within the league to the Straubing Tigers for the 2008/09 season , where he received a two-year contract. He left Straubing after the 2009/10 season and joined the EVR Tower Stars from the 2nd Bundesliga.
For the 2011/12 season Maloney moved to HC Thurgau in the National League B . Since January 2012 he has been playing again with the EVR Tower Stars in the 2nd Bundesliga.
As Brian Maloney announced on March 12, 2014 in a personal statement on the EVR Tower Stars homepage , he will withdraw from active ice hockey for health reasons (groin injury) and go back to his homeland in Canada.
