Matt Kinch (born February 17, 1980 in Red Deer , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Bentley Generals in the Chinook Hockey League since January 2013 . In Germany he played with the Straubing Tigers and EV Ravensburg, among others .
Career
Kinch began his career in 1995 in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League with the Calgary Hitmen . After the defensive player was used in just one game in his first season in Calgary , he was already part of the Hitmen squad the following year. In the 1996/97 season, the Canadian completed 64 games and scored 32 points scorer. So he was one of the defenders with the highest points in the team. Two years later, Kinch and his team won the championship of the Western Hockey League, the Ed Chynoweth Cup , and qualified with the Hitmen as a result for participation in the tournament for the CHL Memorial Cup . There the team was able to win the runner-up. Kinch scored 113 points in 89 league games and was a major contributor to this success.
During the NHL Entry Draft in 1999 , it was those responsible for the Buffalo Sabers who selected him in the fifth round in a total of 146th position. The left shooter then stayed two more seasons in Calgary before he moved to the American Hockey League for the then farm team of the Buffalo Sabers, the Hartford Wolf Pack , in the summer of 2001 . In the three seasons he went on the ice for the Wolf Pack, Matt Kinch never got a chance to prove himself in the National Hockey League and spent most of his time in the AHL and initially in the East Coast Hockey League with the Charlotte Checkers . For the 2004/05 season , the Canadian signed a contract with EC Red Bull Salzburg , for which he was only active for one year and in the following season both in the squad of the SCL Tigers from the Swiss National League A , and in the squad of the ERC Ingolstadt from the German Ice Hockey League .
After another engagement with the Straubing Tigers , Kinch returned to North America for the 2007/08 season . There the defender signed a contract with the Ottawa Senators , who only used him in their farm team, the Binghamton Senators , in the AHL. The then 28-year-old was able to score 25 times in 73 completed games for the Senators. In the 2008/09 season he laced the skates for the Worcester Sharks from the AHL in three games before Kinch decided to return to the German Ice Hockey League. Finally, the management of the Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg took him under contract, for which he completed a season.
In 2009 he was signed by EV Ravensburg , for whom he has played in the 2nd Bundesliga since then.
