The Ivishak River is an approx. 150 km long right tributary of the Sagavanendetok River in the North Slope of Alaska .
It has its source in the Brooks Range on the continental divide and flows first in a northeastern, then northwestern direction through the Philip Smith Mountains , the northern foothills of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and finally the tundra of the coastal plain. The Ivishak flows about 100 km south of Prudhoe Bay into the Sagavaninsk River, which flows into the Beaufort Sea .
The 129 km long section of the Ivishak River in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge together with the entire headwaters and an unnamed tributary from Porcupine Lake were designated as a National Wild and Scenic River in 1980 by the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act .
