The Sagavaninsk River is a 298 km long river in the North Slope region of Alaska .
It rises on the northern flank of the Brook range between the Endicott and the Philip Smith Mountains and flows into the Beaufort Sea at Prudhoe Bay .
Between Atigun Pass and Deadhorse , the Dalton Highway and the Trans-Alaska Pipeline run for long stretches parallel to the Sagavanektivenok River.
The name of the Eskimos for the river was recorded in 1901 by SJ Marsh, a prospector , as "Sawanukto", which means something like "strong current".
