The Endicott Mountains are a mountain range of the Brooks Range in the Interior of Alaska . They extend over an area of about 50,000 km² from the Noatak River , Kaluluktok Creek and Walker Lake in the west to the Atigun River , the Dietrich River and the Middle Fork Koyukuk River in the east.
In the southwest of the Endicott Mountains are the Arrigetch Peaks , a group of granite peaks in the headwaters of the Kobuk River with a height of up to 2192 m, which were designated as a National Natural Landmark in 1968 .
The highest point is the Thibodeaux Mountain with 2298 m. The Endicott Mountains include some subordinate mountain ranges such as the Akoliakruich Hills, Alatna Hills, Angayucham Mountains, Becks Hills, Helpmejack Hills, Jack White Range, Ninemile Hills, and the Schwatka Mountains.
In addition to the Kobuk River, four other Wild and Scenic Rivers have their headwaters in the Endicott Mountains: the Alatna River , John River , the North Fork Koyukuk River and its tributary Tinayguk River .
The mountain range is located in the Gates-of-the-Arctic National Park , to the east the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge borders. The Dalton Highway from Fairbanks to Prudhoe Bay , the only road to cross the Brooks Range, runs between the Endicott Mountains and Philip Smith Mountains .
The mountain range was named in 1885 by Henry Tureman Allen after William Crowninshield Endicott , Secretary of War under President Grover Cleveland .
