Demographics

In 2018, the population of the North Slope Borough was estimated at 9797 people; the number of households is around 2000. The average age was 34.8 years, which is well below the US average, which is 37.9 years. The median household income is estimated at around $ 75,500. Oil deposits

On March 9, 2017, the Spanish energy company Repsol announced the results of its search for oil deposits in the region, which has been ongoing since 2008. The deposits found are estimated at around 1.2 billion barrels with a daily output of up to 120,000 barrels. This makes the find one of the largest for land-based deposits in the USA for more than 30 years. The start of regular funding is targeted for 2021. Together with a recently presented find by the US company ConocoPhillips , which was estimated to have a supply of around 300 million barrels, the deposit offers the possibility of a revival of the long-term decline in oil production in the region.
