The Northwest Arctic Borough is a district in the state of Alaska in the United States of America . 7523 inhabitants live here. The seat of the borough administration is in Kotzebue .
geography
The district has an area of 105,573 square kilometers, which is about the size of a third of Germany . Of this, 99,976 square kilometers are land and 12,579 square kilometers (11.93 percent) are water.
history
The borough was formed on June 2, 1986 and was given a descriptive name based on its geographic location.
Three buildings and sites in the borough are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of April 24, 2020), including the Cape Krusenstern National Monument and the Onion Portage Archeological District have the status of National Historic Landmarks .
