Ketchikan Gateway Borough is a borough in Alaska , United States . The district is located in the south of the so-called Alaska Panhandle . In 2010, 13,477 people lived here. The administrative seat is in Ketchikan .

Before the incorporation in 2008, the district had an area of ​​4545 square kilometers; of which 3194 square kilometers are land and 1349 square kilometers (29.69 percent) are water bodies.

history

The borough was established on September 13, 1963.

On May 19, 2008, large parts of the then Prince of Wales-Outer Ketchikan Census Area , including the Outer Ketchikan region , fell to the borough.

The Saxman Totem Park has been registered in the NRHP since August 1979.
