The Haines Borough is a district in the state of Alaska in the United States of America . The district, which is located in the so-called Alaska Panhandle , has 2508 inhabitants. The seat of the borough administration is in Haines .

The district has an area of 6,070 square kilometers. Of this, 5080 square kilometers are land and 990 square kilometers (14.02 percent) are water.
history
The borough was formed in August 1968 and named after the Haines Mission founded in 1881 by Pastor Eugene S. Willard. The mission was named in honor of Francina Haines (1819–?), Who, as secretary on the board of directors of the Presbyterian mission, collected the money for the foundation.
Six buildings and sites in the borough are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of April 21, 2020), including Fort William H. Seward the status of a National Historic Landmark .
