Fairbanks North Star Borough (German: Fairbanks North Star District) is a borough in the US state of Alaska in the United States of America . The borough is part of the Alaskan metropolitan area of ​​Fairbanks, so-called Fairbanks, Alaska Metropolitan Statistical Area , which extends over the entire area of ​​the borough and is only slightly smaller than the entire US state of New Jersey . In 2010 a population of 97,581 was determined.

history

The borough was formed on January 1, 1964 and named after the city of Fairbanks, which was named in honor of the politician and American Vice President Charles W. Fairbanks . The addition “North Star” (“Polar Star”) was selected in a corresponding student competition.
