In 1978 he moved to Mumbai to take classes in Indian classical music at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan . In 2004 he released his first private album "Upahaar", which includes several duets with his wife Deepa Jha. This became a huge hit and one of the best-selling albums ever. Udit voiced his voice to Shahrukh Khan in 2006 in the film Don: The Game Begins . In 2007 he then voiced his partner in the film Govinda. And in God Tussi Great Ho he sings again with Alka Yagnik.
