The Padma Bhushan ( Hindi पद्म भूषण , lotus order ) is the third highest Indian civil order after the Bharat Ratna and the Padma Vibhushan (and before the Padma Shri ). It has been awarded annually since 1954 on January 26th - “ Republic Day ” - by the Indian President to people who have made a great contribution to the nation in scientific, political, cultural or other areas.
