Vijaypat Singhania

Vijaypat Singhania (born October 4, 1938 in Kanpur ) is a retired Indian entrepreneur and balloonist . He is currently the holder of the altitude record for a hot air balloon ride .

Life

Vijaypat Singhania made a name for himself as an entrepreneur in the Indian textile industry before retiring. Since 1980 he has been chairman of "Raymond Ltd.", the leading company within the Raymond Group . According to its own information, the group has a market share of around 60 percent in the domestic textile market. His income made him a millionaire.

On December 20, 2005, the 67-year-old was sworn in as Mumbai's sheriff , an office he held for a year.

Vijaypat Singhania is married. His son Gautam Hari Singhania now leads the group.

Sporting interests and successes

Singhania developed a soft spot for air sports . In August / September 1998 he managed to cover a distance of 9,655 kilometers from Great Britain to India in 23 days with an ultralight aircraft . He undercut the existing record of a journalist, which took 34 days. The flight was worth an entry in the Guinness Book of Records .

The sports enthusiast won the first international "Round the World Air Race" in 1994. The circumnavigation of the world within 24 hours earned Singhania a gold medal from the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI).

In January 2005, he acquired his pilot's license to ride a hot air balloon. In June of the same year he set an Indian national record with his sports equipment. It advanced to an altitude of 16,000 feet . On November 26, 2005, a ride took him to an altitude of 69,852 feet (21,291 meters), setting a world record for Vijaypat Singhania. It took off in Mumbai and landed around five hours later at the city of Sinnar in the state of Maharashtra .

For three decades, Singhania also practiced equestrian sport and worked for a long time as an official at the "Royal Western India Turf Club" in Mumbai.
