Chanda Kochhar (born November 17, 1961 in Jodhpur ) is an Indian manager and chief executive officer of ICICI Bank . She is one of the most influential women in the world , according to Time magazine . Even Forbes lists it as one of the most powerful women .

Life

Chanda Kochhar was born the daughter of an engineer. Her parents originally came from Karachi and belonged to the Hindu minority there. Her parents had to flee Karachi and lost their property in the process. The parents attached great importance to academic education.

Chanda Kochhar studied at the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management in Bombay and at the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India , where she twice earned a bachelor's degree , at the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute as the best of the year. She was then offered a trainee position at ICICI in 1982 . She caught the eye of the later CEO of the ICICI bank KV Kamath because of her initiative, which she then promoted. Gradually, she worked in numerous management positions in the business areas of ICICI. On May 1, 2009, she succeeded KV Kamath as CEO of the bank. She took over management of the bank at a time when the global financial crisis was also affecting the bank. She publicly rejected the demand of the Indian central bank president D. Subbarao to expand the credit volume by 20% in order to stimulate the Indian economy and instead advocated a cautious increase.

In 2019, Chanda Kochhar was released as CEO of ICICI, and a short time later a case against her for unlawful enrichment in office was opened.
