Ravindra Kelekar

Ravindra Kelekar (born March 25, 1925 in Cuncolim , Goa , † August 27, 2010 in Margao , Goa) was an Indian author, translator and activist.

He has written over 100 works in Konkani , the dialect of Marathi, as well as in English, Hindi, Marathi and Gujarati. In particular, his works on Gandhi's ideology are considered classics in India. His translation of the Mahabharata in Konkani is one of the most important pieces of literature in India.

In 2006 Kelekar was awarded the Jnanpith Award , the most important Indian literary prize, and in 2008 with the third highest Indian civil order, the Padma Bhushan .

Kelekar was buried with a state funeral.
