Buddhadev Das Gupta ( Bengali : বুদ্ধদেব দাশগুপ্ত , Buddhadeb Dāśgupta ; born February 1, 1933 in Bhagalpur , Bihar ; † January 15, 2018 in Calcutta ) was an Indian musician who played classical North Indian music on the lute instrument sarod .

He was taught by Radhika Mohan Maitra (1917-1981), who taught a strict style of sarod playing and comes from the Senia Shahjahanpur- Gharana (a school of sarod players from Gwalior ).

Buddhadev Das Gupta did not come from a family of musicians, which is why his father demanded that he learn a second profession in addition to his musical studies. Buddhadev became an engineer and did this for 32 years. Meanwhile, he continued to study with his teacher. From 1949 he worked as a musician for All India Radio in Calcutta, and since 1961 his game has been broadcast nationwide on the radio. In 1954 he had his first appearances in Europe.

In 2012 Buddhadev Das Gupta was awarded the Indian State Order Padma Bhushan .

His son Anirban Das Gupta is also a sarod player and engineer.
