Prabodh Chandra Dey (born May 1, 1919 in Calcutta , † October 24, 2013 in Bangalore ), better known by his nickname Manna Dey , was an Indian playback singer of Hindi films .

Life

Together with Mohammed Rafi , Kishore Kumar and Mukesh, Dey was one of the most important Indian playback singers. He has recorded more than 3,500 songs over the course of his career. In December 1953 he married Sulochana Kumaran ; they had two daughters: Shuroma (* 1956) and Sumita (* 1958). Dey had lived in Bangalore since the 1990s; his wife Sulochana died of cancer in January 2012.
