action

Kolkata : Gurucharan takes out a mortgage from his neighbor Navin Rai to finance the wedding of his eldest daughter. After a while, Navin demands his money back so that he can take possession of the house. Navin is so convinced that he will get the money that he is already making plans to clean up the property. Only his son Shekhar views this development with skepticism, as he has been close friends with Gurucharan's niece Lalita for many years.

One day the rich Girin from London visits and immediately falls in love with the beautiful Lalita. Under these circumstances, Shekhar realizes that he feels more for Lalita and the two get involved in a secret wedding.

Girin even takes on Gurucharan's debt, which makes Navin very angry. He claims Gurucharan to have sold his niece Lalita to Girin. To prevent further rumors from spreading, Gurucharan announces the marriage between Girin and Lalita.

Lalita remains silent about all the wedding plans. This silence leads Shekhar to believe that she is consenting to the marriage. Out of spite, Shekhar also accepts a wedding.

As the wedding date slowly approaches, Lalita confesses to her future husband that she cannot marry him because she is already married. Girin shows understanding and unites Lalita with her Shekhar.

Reviews

The film creates some impressions of that time by means of costumes, architecture and lighting of Kolkata from the turn of the century, as they are later associated with Rays Charulata .
