Filmfare Award
The Filmfare Awards are the oldest and most important awards given to Hindi films in India .
The prizes were first awarded in 1954 and annually since then. Readers of the Filmfare magazine vote on the winners from the nominees, who are selected in a pre-selection by a committee of experts. At the first award ceremony, prizes were awarded in only five categories. There are now more than thirty. There is also a separate category for Critic Awards, which are given by film critics rather than the audience. There was no award ceremony in 1987 and 1988.
The otherwise black trophies were made for the 25th anniversary in silver and for the 50th in gold.
