Rishi Kapoor (born September 4, 1952 in Mumbai , Maharashtra ; † April 30, 2020 there ) was an Indian actor of the Hindi film who appeared in leading roles in particular in the 1970s and 80s. He came from the famous Kapoor family , who have been in the film business for a long time.

biography

Kapoor made his debut in 1970 in Mera Naam Joker , a film by his father Raj Kapoor . The film flopped at the box office and a career start seemed impossible. Three years later, his father cast him in the lead role of his film Bobby , which became one of the most successful Hindi films of the 1970s.

Rishi became a superstar and landed many hits, including in Laila Majnu , Amar Akbar Anthony , Kabhi Kabhie and Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin .

It was only in the 90s that he was pushed back from the romantic hero roles and later took on more father roles such as in Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi , Hum Tum - I & you, crazy with love and Fanaa . Kapoor also directed and directed Ab Ab Laut Chalen (1998), starring Aishwarya Rai , Akshaye Khanna and Rajesh Khanna .

In 2008 Rishi Kapoor received the Filmfare Award for his cinematic life's work.

Rishi Kapoor, the second son of the actor and director Raj Kapoor, married the actress Neetu Singh in 1980 , with whom he also had some joint film successes. Her son Ranbir Kapoor also started an acting career in Bollywood . They also have a daughter.

Rishi Kapoor died in late April 2020 at the age of 67 from complications from leukemia diagnosed two years earlier.
