Kunal Kohli directed and the producer was Aditya Chopra . Rani Mukerji and Saif Ali Khan play the two main actors Rhea and Karan . Hum Tum (translated: Me and You or just Me You ) is based on Harry and Sally and follows the encounters between the two main characters, who, after a few years and many meetings, become friends and finally fall in love.

action

Karan Kapoor is an aspiring comic artist on his way to the United States. Hum and Tum are his comic characters. After asking questions at a trade fair, he remembers Rhea.

On the plane to the States, he sits next to Rhea Prakash. Out of boredom, he speaks to Rhea and, during a stopover in Amsterdam, suggests that they look around the city together. The two quarrel over every aspect of life and when Karan kisses Rhea, a war breaks out between the two; they eventually go their separate ways in the States. Rhea can't stand Karan and destroys his relationship when she meets his girlfriend. She tells him how bad he is and that he kissed her while Karan was in a relationship with the girl.

During the years they happen to meet several times. Karan's mother is a wedding planner in India. Karan is now back from New York and helping his mother. He also draws the comic characters Hum Tum for a newspaper that is very well received. Karan's mother plans Rhea's wedding and there Karan and Rhea meet again. Rhea accuses Karan of not having changed a bit. During the wedding planning, Karan shows his best side and they get along. After Rhea's wedding and departure, Karan discovers that he has fallen in love with Rhea, but still denies it internally. In Paris they meet again by chance on the train. Karan is now writing a book about Hum and Tum . He seeks inspiration in the city of love. Rhea graduated from college and opened a designer store. Karan and Rhea talk, and Rhea tells Karan that Sameer was killed in a car accident. Rhea still mourns him. Karan cheers her up and helps her, but Rhea moves away without telling him where to go. Eventually they meet again in India, by accident. Karan tries to pair Rhea with his best friend because he sees himself as unworthy of her. Rhea is outraged by the idea because she hasn't been left alone since she's a widow. Karan and Rhea argue and he runs away. Karan's friend tells Rhea that Karan loves him and that few are lucky enough to find love twice. She looks for him and finds him drunk. They spend a night together (this scene was cut in the Indian version), and because Karan suspects that this will have lost Rhea forever, he leaves Rhea. After realizing his mistake and trying to find her, she vanished into thin air.

Karan writes his book on Hum and Tum , but it's actually his and Rhea's story. She returns to him after reading his book. After he admits that he loves her, the two marry and have a daughter.
