Along with her aunt Nutan , Kajol holds the record as a five-time winner of the Filmfare Award in the Best Actress category .
biography
Kajol comes from a family that has been in the film business for a long time: Her great-grandmother Rattan Bai was an actress, after her Kajol's grandmother Shobhna Samarth . Kajol's marathic mother is Tanuja , who rose to fame along with her older sister Nutan in the 1960s. Kajol's Bengali father, Shomu Mukherjee , was a producer and director, while Kajol's sister Tanisha started making films in Bollywood in 2005 and 2006, and her cousin is another famous actress: Rani Mukerji .
Kajol initially attracted attention with Baazigar . Already in 1995 she was lucky enough to be directed by the then debutant, but now very successful director Aditya Chopra for his film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge - First Come Get the Bride in front of the camera. The film became a huge success and ran in Indian cinemas for an unusually long time. In the Bombay cinema Maratha Mandir it still runs continuously today (since October 20, 1995). With the actor Shah Rukh Khan , Kajol formed in seven films - Baazigar (1993), Karan Arjun (1995), Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge - First Come Get the Bride (1995), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai - And all of a sudden it's love (1998), In good as in bad days (2001) , My Name Is Khan (2010) and most recently in Dilwale - I love you (2015) - a successful screen couple. Natascha Geisler dubbed her in the German language versions of these films .
In September 1998 she toured for the first time in the megastars concert Awesome Foursome with Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and Juhi Chawla . Together they stepped on stage and danced to their greatest movie hits.
Kajol is married to Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan . Although she did not make a film for five years after Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham because she wanted to concentrate on her family and her daughter Nysa (born April 20, 2003), she returned to the headlines in 2005 because she is now working for a company, who sells and promotes diamonds and made a commercial with her husband Ajay Devgan.
In 2006 she made her comeback with the film Fanaa (translated: Destruction ), directed by Kunal Kohli , in which she is the film partner of Aamir Khan . For her role as the blind cashmere girl Zooni Ali Beg, she received many important awards, including the Filmfare Award for best leading actress . This is now the fourth Filmfare Award that Kajol has received for the best leading role. Her film U, Me Aur Hum - Forever We , directed by her husband, was released on April 11, 2008 . The day before the film was released, her father died of a heart attack.
For some time now, Kajol has been concentrating on needy Indian children of widows who previously had no opportunities to go to school. She was elected ambassador for the Loomba Trust , of which Cherie Blair is president . Kajol has now received the Karamveer Puraskar Award for its social commitment .
On 11/12 In February 2010 My Name Is Khan celebrated its world premiere at the 60th Berlinale . The performance took place outside of the competition. Director Karan Johar was present with Kajol and the lead actor Shahrukh Khan. For her role as Mandira, she received her fifth Filmfare Award for Best Actress. Now she and her aunt Nutan hold the record in this category with five awards. It is her seventh overall.
Due to the birth of their second child Yug on September 13, 2010, Kajol retired from the film business. Still, she could be seen on the big screen for a while. We are Family ran worldwide from September 3rd and at the end of December 2010 the live-action animated film Toonpur Ka Superrhero was released .
In 2011 Kajol received the Padma Shri for her participation in Indian cinema.
Kajol was chosen as India's most iconic actress, dwarfing Indian acting legends like Madhubala or Rekha . The poll was produced by India's largest and best-known film and entertainment magazine, Filmfare . The online voting has been running since October 2011.
