Sara Douglass
Sara Douglass (* 2. June 1957 in Penola , South Australia as Sara Warneke ; † 27. September 2011 in Hobart , Tasmania ) was an Australian writer of fantasy - novels .
Life
Douglass grew up on a small farm in South Australia before moving to Adelaide with her parents and three siblings at the age of seven , where she attended Methodist Ladies College . After school, at the request of her parents, she became a nurse. A career choice that did not satisfy Douglass, so she went on to study English history at the University of Adelaide . After receiving her doctorate in 1992, she gave up the nursing profession and taught medieval European history as a lecturer at La Trobe University in Bendigo .
Douglass eventually began writing stories and HarperCollins decided to publish their book BattleAxe in 1995 (published in the US under the title The Wayfarer Redemption ). This book is the first of their Tencendor series , in which eight more books followed between 1996 and 2010.
After her success in English-speaking countries, her first novel, Die Sternenbraut (from BattleAxe ), was published in German translation in October 2002 .
Sara Douglass dedicated herself to gardening and maintained her own internet presence on the subject.
She was diagnosed with cancer in 2008. On September 27, 2011, she died of ovarian cancer .
