action

Ajay is a young responsible man who always takes care of his family. When he finally finds a job, life doesn't seem to stand in his way. But then the unexpected happens: In the temple, a woman says she recognizes him as a rapist and Ajay is immediately arrested by the police. Although he is ill-treated and tortured by the police at the station, Ajay does not make a confession. The court found him guilty of raping three women. The sentence is seven years imprisonment, of which he only has to serve four years.

After his release, Ajay learns of the suicides of his father and his girlfriend Pooja. His sister has gone insane and is in a mental institution. The mother lives lonely and impoverished in a dilapidated house.

Ajay is devastated. He is despised by society and the father of a rape victim, an inspector, wants to put him behind bars. Only the journalist Ritu and his friend Gopal want to help him find the real rapists and get revenge on them.

After some research it turns out that Raj Bahadur, a politician, and his people are behind these atrocities. Despite some turmoil, they can finally take revenge on the real rapists.

criticism

[...] "Gundaraj" is not only questionable in terms of content, it is also pretty weak in terms of the staging. The many sufferings that Ajay has to endure are sloppily strung together. It's played okay and the songs are at best mediocre. […] Ajay and the under-challenged Kajol are good, Amrish Puri and the secondary actors are not bad either […]. Definitely an early low point in the career of the two leading actors, who have now been married to each other. (from molodezhnaja.ch May 23, 2004)
