Heather Blaine Mitts Feeley (* 9. June 1978 as Heather Blaine Mitts in Cincinnati , Ohio ) is a former American football player .

life and career

During her high school years she played for the St. Ursula Academy team . On a sports scholarship, she studied at the University of Florida in Gainesville , Florida and played for the Florida Gators soccer team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) from 1996 to 1999 . As part of the chain of defense, she helped the Gators win the first NCAA Women's Soccer Championship in 1998 . After graduating from college in 2000, she played for Tampa Bay Extreme in the W-League while waiting for the new Women's United Soccer Association league. After the start of the WUSA, she was drafted for the Philadelphia Charge and played 51 times for Philadelphia by the end of the WUSA. In 2005 Mitts moved to Central Florida Krush in the W-League, for which she only played four times. With the start of the new Women's Professional Soccer season in 2009, she moved to the Boston Breakers . In October 2009 she switched to the Philadelphia Independence , for which she played in the 2010 season and reached the playoff final against FC Gold Pride . For the 2011 season she moved to Atlanta Beat .

In 1999 she won the Nordic Cup with the U-21 . She made her first of 137 international matches on February 24, 1999 in a 3-1 win against Finland . It remained the only international match for two years and in the following three years she only came to one (2001 and 2002) or two (2003) short appearances. She only became a regular player in 2004 and was used in 28 games. Your first international goal was the decisive 1-0 on July 3, 2004 against Canada . Her second and last international goal was also decisive in the game: In stoppage time she scored the 4: 3 against Iceland on September 25, 2004 .

In 2004 she was part of the winning US team at the Algarve Cup and also part of the roster for the Olympic Games , which won gold for the US for the second time in Athens. In 2005 she won the Algarve Cup with the US team and made eight appearances in nine international matches.

In 2008 she was able to win gold again with the US team at the Olympic Games in Beijing .

On March 11, 2009, she played her 100th international match in the final of the Algarve Cup against Sweden (1-1 n.V. 3: 4 p. E.).

For the 2013 season she received a contract for the Boston Breakers in the newly founded National Women's Soccer League , the highest American professional league in women's football . On March 13th, before the start of the season, she announced her retirement from active sports.

Private

In June 2002, she was featured on the cover of Philadelphia Magazine as one of the Sexiest Singles of the City. In 2004 she was the first soccer player to publish a 5-page photo series in the FHM . In 2005 she appeared in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue with her fiancé AJ Feeley , quarterback for the St. Louis Rams , whom she married on February 13, 2010.

She has been a member of the Philadelphia Union TV commentator and presenter team since March 2013 . Before that, she worked as a presenter and commentator for the broadcasters ABC / ESPN / ESPN2, for which she reported on the 2003 Women's World Cup . In 2005 she was a field reporter in Major League Soccer and College Football on ESPN.

Once a year Mitts holds a soccer training camp for children and teenagers in the USA.
