Clemens von Pirquet Prize

The Clemens von Pirquet Prize is a science prize awarded by the Austrian Society for Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine in memory of Clemens von Pirquet . The award was decided in 1967 under the presidency of Hans Asperger . The prize was initially endowed with 10,000 schillings , later with 30,000 schillings, and most recently with 2,200 euros . The prize was awarded for “scientific achievements in the field of paediatrics and its border areas”. The award is restricted to members of the society.

Awarding

The award was initially made by a jury. "The awarding of the prize is decided by a board of trustees made up of the respective president of the Austrian Society for Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine as chairperson, three university lecturers and two representatives from other child and youth departments" (§ 9 of the statutes of the Clemens von Pirquet Prize ). Senior physicians were excluded and younger applicants were given preference, although there was no age limit. Initially an annual award was planned, from 1976 every 2 years.

From 2013, the award criteria were changed with the aim of making an objective award possible. The award is now to be made to the member of the ÖGKJ whose scientific publications have received the most citations in the previous three years . The Web of Science database is used as a reference for this . An annual award has been announced.
