Adolf Windorfer
Adolf Windorfer (born February 7, 1909 in Falkenstein (Upper Palatinate) , † April 21, 1996 in Erlangen ) was a German pediatrician . He headed the University Children's Hospital Erlangen and was President of the Society for Pediatrics .
Life
Windorfer was born in 1909 as the son of a pharmacist and his wife in the Upper Palatinate . After graduating from the Real-Gymnasium in Regensburg, he studied medicine at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , the Hessian Ludwig University , the Silesian Friedrich Wilhelms University and the University of Zurich . During his studies, he joined the Danubia Munich fraternity . In 1934 he was promoted to Dr. med. PhD. In 1942 he completed his habilitation at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main .
From 1935 to 1936 he worked as an assistant for orthopedics at the University of Munich Hospital and from 1936 as a senior physician for paediatrics at the University Children's Hospital in Frankfurt am Main . In the army (Wehrmacht) he took part in the German-Soviet war . After being a prisoner of war in 1947, he initially worked as a pediatrician in Falkenstein until he returned to Frankfurt am Main . From 1950 to 1956 he was director of the children's clinic at the Olgahospital .
In 1957 he was appointed to the chair of paediatrics at the University of Erlangen as the successor to Alfred Adam . At the same time he was director of the University Children's Hospital in Erlangen . In 1960 he refused an offer to Frankfurt to succeed his teacher Bernhard de Rudder . In 1977 he retired. His main research interests were a. in epidemic pleurodynia , infectious diseases , cystic fibrosis and poliomyelitis .
He was president, from 1979 honorary member of the Society for Pediatrics . The French Society for Pediatrics accepted him as an honorary member. In 1972 he received the Ernst von Bergmann plaque and in 1974 the Clemens von Pirquet Prize . In 1990 he was honored with the Albert B. Sabine Medal of the German Society for Social Pediatrics .
Windorfer was married and had three children.

The Mukoviszidose eV (formerly: German Society for Combating Mukoviszidose eV , whose co-founder Winderdorfer was) awards today the Adolf Windorfer Prize for "outstanding research work" .
