The epidemic Pleurodynia ( Pleurodynia epidemic ) or Bornholm disease is caused by certain coxsackie virus caused infectious disease that leads to severe pain when breathing (see Pleurodynia ).
Synonyms and history
- Bornholm's disease , Bornholm's disease or Bornholm's disease , as the first cases on the Danish island of Bornholm were documented by Eynar Sylvest in 1930.

Causes, occurrence and course
It is caused by some types of enterovirus , namely the Coxsackie B virus .
The disease is highly contagious; it can be transmitted from person to person (mainly through smear infection ). An accumulation of cases of illness is observed in the summer months, analogous to the summer flu , which can be triggered, among other things, by Coxsackie B viruses.
The disease is self-limiting .
Symptoms
These cause flu-like symptoms, inflammation of the chest and abdomen muscles and, in addition, dry pleurisy with pleural irritation . Typical for this is an acute onset, belt-shaped chest pain.
